WHAT IS SINUS?

They are the cavities located in the facial bones and open into the nose. Their task is to play a role in the maturation of the voice, determining the timbre of the voice, as well as moisturizing and cleaning the respiratory air and airway. Since they are airy cavities, they also play an important role in reducing the weight of the head. 2 maxillary, 2 ethmoid, 2 frontal and 2 stenoid sinus sections located in the upper back of the nose.

WHY DO WE GET SINUSITIS?

The main cause of nasal congestion, which covers a wide range of conditions such as cold, flu, allergic origin, is the inability of the mucus secreted in the cavities to drain into the nose and the addition of infection. The reason for this judgment, which is commonly said as “sinusitis does not pass”, is that although sinusitis is cured with medical treatment, recurrences can be seen due to factors such as allergic hay fever, nasal curvatures, (deviation) congenital sinus anatomy disorders that cause the disease.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SINUSITIS?

  • Pain in the face, feeling of pressure in the head
  • Nasal congestion
  • Nasal discharge, phlegm
  • Bad breath (common in anarep infections) these symptoms may vary individually.

TREATMENT

It is necessary to use appropriate antibiotic combinations for ideal periods of time. Correcting the risk factors (allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, nasal polyps…) that cause the disease to occur is important both in treatment and in terms of continuity of treatment.

Although such applications are used to clean the nose, considering that the source of infection is the sinuses, it is necessary to know that their effects will last for a maximum of 3-5 minutes and the cleaned discharge will flow from the sinus back into the nose. In addition, the risk of carrying the discharge containing microbes to the ear and surrounding structures with the Eustachian tube during the procedure applied with a certain pressure should not be ignored.
