What is Vertigo? How is it treated?

Dr. ozbarsut

Vertigo is the medical name for dizziness, which is not a disease but a symptom of a disease. The sentence “I feel dizzy” has the same meaning as “I have vertigo.” It is an illusion of perception. Some have a virtual rotation according to the objects around them, or the objects have a virtual rotation according to the person.

Diziness; Septomas are lighter. There are complaints in the form of strain, feeling that the ground is sliding under the foot, feeling of being pushed, rather than rotation. Balance is achieved by evaluating the signals continuously received by the inner ear, eye and deep sense and adjusting the muscle tone and position of the body in response to it. If one of the 3 systems has a problem for any reason, dizziness occurs. If the vehicle or seasickness occurs, it occurs when the eye, inner ear and deep sense do not work in synchronization. The closer the problems are to the inner ear balance center, the higher the severity and the shorter the healing process.

In problems in other areas of balance, the intensity of the rotation is low and the duration is long.

EAR, NOSE AND THROAT DISEASES CAUSING TINNITUS

Meniere’s

It is characterized by fluctuating hearing loss, severe dizziness and tinnitus, constant vomiting during attacks, and it is so severe that you cannot even open your eyes. (Diagnosis should not be made without diagnostic tests.) There are many patients who have been diagnosed with meniere’s disease, but the cause of dizziness is different. In our country, there are many patients who apply as having meniere’s disease without any research.

In my clinical observations, we see that the diagnosis of meniere’s can be easily made without searching the patient with vertigo. The patient adopts the diagnosis of meniere’s very much, and when it is stated that it is not meniere’s as a result of examination and examination, he states that he has been diagnosed by very famous professors in Ankara and Istanbul and leaves for good.

This group of patients can regularly use Bhistamine group drugs, which have been used in the health sector for about 40 years but whose mechanism of action is still not clearly explained, for years.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Meniere’s is a disease that should not be diagnosed without a patient history, a good balance examination, provocation tests or audiometry tests during an attack. It is the most common disease of the peripheral, vestibular system. The dizziness is characterized by dizziness that occurs during muscular movements and is quite severe for a short period of time.Symptoms are triggered by movements such as lying in bed, turning over in bed, looking up, bending over, etc. It usually lasts for 5-30 seconds.Symptoms are not accompanied by hearing loss. The patient avoids sudden movements and may walk with legs spread to expand the surface area.

In my clinical observations, a segment of patients who say that my crystals have moved because it is fashionable in the recent period is proportionally increasing among the patients presenting with vertigo. Such approaches affect the objective approach of the physician to vertigo and cause loss of time in diagnosis and theory.

Vestibular Neuronitis

It is caused by a viral infection of the balance nerve and is characterized by symptoms of severe dizziness, nausea and vomiting, which are improved by the opposite ear compensating for the balance.

Diagnosis and Treatment

The patient presenting with dizziness (vertigo) is restless, tense and insecure depending on the severity and symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, feeling of imbalance as a result of the perception illusion he/she experiences. It is important to take a good history of the onset of the disease from the patient, if possible, and if not, from his/her relatives.

After the necessary K.b.b examination, suspicious areas of eye movements called nystagmus should be checked. The inner ear balance center is considered as the source and medical treatment is applied to control the symptoms. When the patient returns to a relatively normal life, a number of tests such as video ENG, rotation tests, posturometry, which are applied by stimulating the inner ear to find the source of vertigo, are extremely important in terms of allocation and prevention of recurrence.
